For years now, I have wanted to write a blog. Finally, that inspiration has come to fruition! The topics on this blog will reflect my diverse life experiences and interests. I want to be free to blog about whatever inspires and impassions me. My inspirations may be expressed through writing, art or a combination of the two.

I was born in Wilmington, NC—my mother’s hometown. When I was 5 or 6, we moved to West Virginia—my father’s home state. During my first few years of school, I was bounced from schooDoris_beach_adjl to school as my family moved. The Dictaphone company, for whom my father worked, kept transferring him to new cities every few months. He finally declared, “Enough is enough!” and we moved back to my mother’s hometown. I grew up surrounded by my maternal grandparents, lots of aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. There were 7 children in my mother’s family, so Thanksgivings were big!

Doris_grad73adjWhen I graduated from college, I went back home to Wilmington. A few years later, I had an opportunity that would forever change my life. I, Doris Bailey, who was so shy that I would not even walk across a store alone, ended up going to Venezuela to work and live for 2 years. I did not go back to the U.S. or see my family during those 2 years.

After my return to the U.S., I again traveled far away from family and enrolled in classes at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. I had absolutely no intention of staying in Louisville after completing my M.S.W. However, my field placement my last year of seminary, evolved into a paid staff position. So, since 1982, I have lived in Louisville, KY, far, far away from my family of origin. I had a strong desire to put down deep roots somewhere. I was very tired of moving from place to place. So here I am, with deep roots in Louisville, KY, of all places!

Thank you for visiting my blog! I extend to you a warm welcome to return anytime you feel so inspired! ¡Te doy la bienvenida para regresar en cualquier momento que se te inspire!
